WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE BOAT MODIFICATIONS
At PME we understand that wheelchair users live active lifestyles and not all modifications are a necessity for A-to-B travel. Like anyone else, getting outdoors and enjoying a beautiful day on land or the water is what people live for regardless of your ability. This is why we have taken on a number of different boat modifications and worked out the ins' and outs' of getting you in the captain’s chair.
Access is the first hurdle as there are no public facilities available for wheelchair users to board their vessel. We recommend accessing the boat whilst it’s still on your trailer, this is easier as the boat is much more stable and you can take your time rather than waiting for a window at a busy jetty.
We have extensively researched the best products for use in harsh environments such as out at sea and combined them to make access easy, safe and as independent as possible.
TO GET YOU IN THE CAPTAINS SEAT
We have modified a variety of boats; run abouts, pontoons, cuddy cabins and engineer the best and most comfortable seating position to suit the type of boat you want to captain. Cuddy cabin type boats with a high windscreen can be modified with an eletronic lifting 'chariot' that your wheelchair locks into and lifts you to the most comfortable position to access the controls and see out the windscreen.
We have also modified the boats controls for others with upper limb disabilities such as placing the dual function controls for throttle and shifting on the left hand side.
SO ALL THAT'S LEFT IS FOR YOU TO ENJOY YOURSELF
Because those of us with major disabilities understand just how short life is. For that reason, we are happy to make your boating voyage as pleasurable and pain free as possible by including things like electronic trailer winches, remote/electronic anchor winches, modifications to your wheelchair for lifting and locking you in. Some of our clients have even opted to have a specific stainless steel boating/fishing wheelchair made which we can work out together with your OT and good blokes Mogo wheelchairs. But we dont stop there we've even made up custom rod mounts fitted with a bait tray that mounts on your wheelchair just so you dont miss out on any bites!
